Girls Who Code offers free high school classes for girls across NYC! Whether you’re brand new to coding or just curious to explore, our program combines hands-on learning with mentorship and speaker panels. Students gain technical skills, build confidence, and join a supportive community of peers and mentors.

Join us this fall for free in-person coding classes at Columbia University’s Mudd Building. Our mission is to increase gender diversity in tech by teaching high school students how to code in a supportive community led by Columbia students.
Applications are open to 9th–12th-grade female and nonbinary students in NYC. We prioritize beginners and those with limited access to computer science resources.

Students are expected to attend all classes and complete assignments. If you cannot commit to the full program, please consider applying for a future term.
Learn the core ideas of programming—variables, data types, loops, and functions—and see how they fit together to make powerful tools. Through guided exercises, you’ll practice turning concepts into working code by creating quizzes, calculators, and mini-games, while also building the problem-solving mindset that programmers rely on.
Explore HTML, CSS, and JavaScript while designing and building your own website from scratch.By the end of the program, every student will complete a personal project to showcase their learning and receive guidance from Columbia and Barnard mentors on how to continue growing their skills
